About
Who makes this site
KiteBrazil is an independent guide to kitesurfing in Brazil, edited by Flavio Barros. No school or hotel sponsorship, no affiliate links, and no commission on anything listed here.
What this site is — and is not
It is a compiled guide: it gathers, organises and checks public information about ten kitesurfing destinations in Brazil, adds a wind forecast tool and a set of learning guides, in Portuguese and English.
Not everything here is first-hand — and that is marked page by page. I have ridden six of the ten destinations covered. For the other four the guide was compiled from public sources, and each of them says so at the top rather than leaving the question open.
Where I have actually ridden
Of the destinations covered by this site: Cumbuco, Preá, Jericoacoara, Atins and the Lençóis Maranhenses, Barra Grande in Piauí, and Ilha do Guajiru. Outside this site's list, also Salinas in Pará and the Guarapiranga reservoir in São Paulo.
I have not yet been to Taíba, São Miguel do Gostoso or Araruama. Florianópolis is planned for next season — when I go, this page and that destination change.
How the content is produced
The copy is drafted with the help of artificial intelligence tools and reviewed before publishing. That is stated here because it is true and because it matters to the reader: it means the site is strong on organisation, comparison and clarity, and that the local, lived part is still being built.
What is not generated: the business names, the ratings, the photographs and the wind numbers. Each has its source stated below.
Where each piece of data comes from
- Schools, lodging and restaurants — public Google Maps reviews, filtered to a minimum rating of 4.3 and at least 8 reviews, sorted by rating weighted by volume. Collected on 08/08/2026, shown under each list. No name is hand-written.
- Wind and tide forecast — Open-Meteo weather models, in knots. It is a model forecast recomputed hourly, not a measurement from a station on the beach.
- Photographs — Wikimedia Commons, under free licences, with author and licence credited on every image. No image is AI-generated.
The full method, with the filters and the limitations of each source, is in the post How we pick the schools, the lodging and the photos.
What is not settled yet
Two things, said here before anyone has to ask:
- The logistics and season for each destination need local review. Distances, airport codes, the Jericoacoara tax and the route to Atins were checked against public sources and corrected. What remains — month-by-month wind consistency, tide behaviour, which lagoons fill in a given year — only someone who rides there can settle.
- The business lists are a snapshot, not monitoring. They do not refresh themselves. That is why the date sits under each one: it is the most important thing on the list.
Contact
A factual correction is the most useful message this site can receive. If you ride any of these spots and something here is wrong — a distance, a season, a school that closed — write in. It will be corrected and credited.
Frequently asked
Who writes KiteBrazil?
The site is edited by Flavio Barros, who has ridden six of the ten destinations covered. Copy is drafted with the help of AI tools and reviewed before publishing; the school, lodging and restaurant data is not hand-written — it comes from public Google Maps reviews, with the method described openly.
Do you take commission from schools or lodging?
No. No business listed pays to appear, there are no affiliate links in any list, and the order is set by rating and review volume. If that ever changes, it will be stated on this page before it is anywhere else on the site.
How do I report an error?
Write to contato@kitebrazil.com.br. Factual corrections are the most welcome kind of message: people who ride these places know things no public source records, and that is how this site improves.
