Frequently asked
How do you read a kitesurfing wind forecast?
Look at three things in order: average strength during the hours you will actually ride, not the daily average; the gap between wind and gusts, since a smaller gap means a smoother session; and direction. Side-onshore, blowing diagonally towards the beach, is the safest. Offshore, blowing from land out to sea, is dangerous without boat support.
How much wind do you need to kitesurf?
From about 12 knots you can ride with a large kite or a foil. The comfortable range for most riders is 15 to 22 knots. Above 28 knots you need a small kite and some experience.
Knots or km/h?
One knot is about 1.85 km/h. Every forecast on this site is shown in knots, which is the unit used in kitesurfing.
