The riding

Strong, clean wind through the whole season, arriving unobstructed with little gust spread — the combination that makes this a training destination for anyone drilling tricks in series.

This is the postcard of Brazilian flat water. On the right tide a sheet of knee-deep, ripple-free water forms over sand for an enormous stretch. For learning it is hard to beat: when you fall, you stand up.

Getting there

About 200 km from Fortaleza — roughly three hours on paved road to Itarema, then a short dirt section. It is also reachable from Jericoacoara, which makes a two-centre trip easy.

Worth knowing

The flat sheet depends on the tide. Plan the day around the tide table, not the clock.

The village is small and simple. Bring spares — there is no gear shop nearby.

Frequently asked

Is Ilha do Guajiru good for learning to kitesurf?

It is one of the best places anywhere. Shallow, flat water removes most of the fear from the first days, the bottom is sand and the wind is consistent. The trade-off is that the village has far less infrastructure than Cumbuco.
